Yulki - our Aboriginal Sister
Yulki was a teenager when her family discontinued their nomadic lifestyle and chose to join all the Nunggubuyu tribe who settled in their own tribal country on the Rose River in the remote area of Arnhem Land, NT. The settlement is now the town of Numbulwar. Yulki was impressed by the work of the aboriginal evangelist, and progressed in her own walk over the years as she married, had children, and fulfilled useful roles in the community. She is now a missionary herself.
We are impressed with this book because it represents a success story in the vexed indigenous question. Yulki and many others of the tribe saw the advantages of changing certain aspects of their tradition to gain huge benefits. Most importantly they now worship the one true God, whilst maintaining the best of their traditions.
"Yulki" is written in simplified English (eg short sentences) so that it is accessible to all ages and races. Use it in your Australian studies for all the family. This true story will open your eyes to the life of full-blooded aboriginal life.
Available from Phyllis Mercer, PO Box 73, North Tambourine QLD 4272. Ph 0408 720 137. All profits from sales of this book go to help Aboriginal pastors in the NT.
We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord,
His power and the wonders He has done Ps 78:4
